THE NEXT TURN IN THE EVOLUTIONARY WHEEL OF THE NEW AND EXCITING FUTURE FOR MIKEPRESSWINES

As you know we are committed equally to both quality and cost efficiency when it comes to the wines we produce.  The next step we have taken in achieving these goals is to appoint Vitiworks to manage our vineyards.  Mark Vella and Peter McIntyre have an incredible array of viticulture experience and, along with their team, are well known for the quality of their vineyard management (you can view some of the glowing testimonials here ).

James Press has faithfully cared for this vineyard since its inception and we think Vitiworks are the ideal partners to implement an ongoing sustainable viticulture program and we look forward to seeing the super premium fruit they can deliver from the site.  But enough of what we think, lets hear from Mark and Peter.

Peter and I are extremely excited to be taking on the vineyard management of the Mike Press vineyard.

The 22ha vineyard is an establish vineyard with vines that are greater than 25 years old that have been planted on different orientations and soil types in the Kenton Valley sub region of the Adelaide Hills.

The vineyard site is extremely well elevated with the top block of Pinot Noir being 496m above sea level. This would be one of the highest vineyard in the Adelaide Hills.

The soils vary across the vineyards with clear evidence that the different varieties have been planted to suit the different soil types. The soils are quiet fertile with an abundance of quartz, ironstone and schist rock formations that are scattered throughout a sandy loam to clay loam soil.

The abundance of water with a large dam and underground water really insures security for the vineyard asset and long term viability.

Here we can see them hard at work on a beautiful crisp morning with the green pick coming through from the recent rains.
