Five of Tyson Stezler’s ‘TOP 10 WINES OF THE YEAR UNDER $20 2017’ are Mike Press wines. Amazing

Tyson has just released his annual Top Wines listings, and our wines featured as five of the ‘Top 10 Under $20’. A fantastic achievement and a resounding endorsement of our philosophy to produce great wines at affordable prices. The Wine of the Year Under $20 was our Adelaide Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2015. Here is what Tyson had to say about each of them.

Mike Press Adelaide Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

$15 | Adelaide Hills | Screw cap | 14.5% alcohol | Drink 2022-2030 | 94 points

From vines now 18 years of age in an idyllic season, matured for 16 months in French oak hogsheads, this is a wine that sings its varietal credentials in signature blackcurrant, cedar, green bean, leaf and dark chocolate. It’s tightly coiled for the long-haul, confidently laid out on a solid platform of finely formed tannins. It has all the ingredients for greatness and, as always, begs only for time.

Mike Press Adelaide Hills Single Vineyard Shiraz 2015

$15 | Adelaide Hills | Screw cap | 14.4% alcohol | Drink 2022-2027 | 92 points

2015 was a great season for the Adelaide Hills, and this wine captures the black fruit depth of now 19-year-old shiraz vines, within the elegant mould and refreshing acid balance of this high vineyard, a rousing celebration of all the pepper and spice of Adelaide Hills shiraz. As always, oak pokes out a little at this young age, and it appreciates a vigorous decant or – better – some years in the cellar.

Mike Press Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2015

$17 | Adelaide Hills | Screw cap | 13.8% alcohol | Drink 2017-2020 | 92 points

The pinot from this site just keeps getting more characterful as the vines mature. This release is more definitively Adelaide Hills than ever in its rolling layers of beetroot, tangy strawberries, bay leaves and berry compote. Tangy acidity, finely structured tannins and lingering persistence make for a medium-term proposition. It would have to be the most varietal pinot you’ll find at this price anywhere.

Mike Press Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2016

$13 | Adelaide Hills | Screw cap | 13.9% alcohol | Drink 2016-2017 | 91 points

Layers of tropical fruit exuberance contrast the taut, tense, crunchy acidity that defines this cool, high site in the Adelaide Hills. This is a riper vintage for Mike, loaded with guava, passion fruit and mango, yet the citrus crunch of a long, tangy finish ensures that this party stays under control.

Mike Press Adelaide Hills Single Vineyard Pinot Noir Rosé 2016

$13 | Adelaide Hills | Screw cap | 13.9% alcohol | Drink 2016-2017 | 91 points

An enticingly fragrant and floral release for Mike Press, with an air of rose petals and a core of juicy, succulent, generous, ripe strawberries and raspberries. A lick of sweetness neatly counters the tension of refreshing Adelaide Hills acidity.
